Answer: Real
The leadership and scientific team at MEP Equine Solutions, Lexington, KY, have developed an on-site system that will allow veterinarians to collect equine fecal samples, pass them through a filter, stain the eggs with “a proprietary “Sight” reagent”, and within 5 minutes take a picture of the glowing eggs and let their smartphone do the counting. It is a relatively easy system requiring the purchase of some specific equipment by the veterinarian (Parasight App, Parasight egg separator, “SIGHT” processor and Parasight imaging unit) . The Parasight system is being introduced by Zoetis Diagnostics at the AAEP Convention (going on now) and the plan is to have it ready for marketing in 2016. The app will allow veterinarians to perform and manage FECs, manage, review and email the results to the client, and gain access to area trends with respect to parasite outbreaks and drug resistance. The Parasight system was developed based on the extensive amount of research currently available regarding equine parasites and anthelmintic resistance.
